Short product information for ST22 SkyTraq GPS Receiver Module:

This GPS module is one of the smallest GPS receivers and ideal for DIY projects. The size including antenna is only 0.86x0.86x0.31 inch (22x22x8mm). The SkyTraq Venus 6 chipset provides the parallel tracking of up to 56 satellite channels. Additionally the receiver has a very high sensitivity (-160dBm), no open view to the sky is required. Fast acquisition time for the first position.
The position accuracy is 5-10 yards (5-10 Meter). By enabling the WAAS/EGNOS mode an accuracy of 3-5 yards (2.5-5 Meters) can be achieved.

The module has a serial interface and sends out NMEA data (position, time, etc. in clear text) already in default state. This is recognized by almost every navigation software.

The wide supply voltage range, signal levels and the flexible baud rate makes the module ideal for small microcontrollers.

Electrical data:
  • Supply voltage: 3 - 5.5V DC
  • Current draw: 25mA (average tracking)
  • Signal level: TTL level
  • Output Message: NMEA 0183 GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC
  • Acquisition time (average): Hot Start: 1s, Cold Start: 29s
  • Update rate: 1-10Hz

Note: To operate this module on the serial interface of a PC, an adaptor card (e.g. GPS-RS232 adaptor card or Serial-to-USB converter) is required to shift the signal levels from and to RS232 level.
