Short product information for CatTrack™ GPS Receiver Module:
Produced by GlobalSat the EM406A module is a small GPS receivers on the latest state of technology. The size including antenna is only 1.2x1.2x0.43 inch (3x3x1.1cm). The SiRF 3 chipset provides the parallel tracking of up to 20 satellites. Additionally the receiver has a very high sensitivity (-159dBm), no open view to the sky is required.
The position accuracy is 10 yards (10 Meter). By enabling the WAAS/EGNOS mode an accuary of 5 yards (5 Meters) can be reached.
The module has a serial interface and sends out NMEA data (position, time, etc. in clear text) already in an unconfigurated state. This is recognized by almost every navigation software.
The supply voltage range, signal levels and the low baud rate make the module ideal for small microcontrollers.
Electrical data:
- Supply voltage: 4.5V-6.5V DC
- Current draw: 60mA (35mA trickle mode)
- Signal level: TTL level
- Output voltage level: 0V-2.85V
- Output Message: NMEA 0183 GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC (VTG, GLL optional)
- Aquisation time (average): Reacquisition: 0.1s, Hot Start: 8s, Warm Start: 38s, Cold Start: 42s
- Update rate: 1s
Comes with: GPS Receiver with integrated antenna, interface cable.
Note: To operate this module on the serial interface of a PC, a adaptor card (e.g. GPS-RS232 adaptor card) is required to shift the signal levels from and to RS232 level.
