The VQ1005 was never a star in battery consumption. But with the introduction of the 2008 model the situation got worse. It is not possible to operate the camera with rechargeable batteries any more. And regular batteries are empty in a short time. Well, in reality they are not empty. Only the camera tells us that it is empty. The reason is (based on some measurements) that the signal for the battery monitor is full of noise. The manufacturer saved probably too much on the capacitors. The software probably uses the low voltage value as a threshold and shuts down the device too early.
I found a way to disable the battery monitor completely. The camera sucks the battery really empty and will run twice the time as before.
There are some possible issues related to the modification which you should know about:
- Rechargeable batteries are likely to get damaged because of deep discharge.
- Overload of the voltage regulators. The lower the supply voltage the higher the current. The components are probably not specified for additional current. But the lower the voltage gets the lower the current is that the battery can supply. The tests so far showed no damage to the camera.
- SD card failure. Depending on the SD memory card, there might be the possibility of corrupt data if the camera shuts down during memory writing.

Die VQ1005 war nie besonders gut im Batterieverbrauch. Mit der Einführung des 2008 Models wurde dies nochmals deutlich schlechter. Nun ist es nicht mehr möglich die Kamera mit Akkus zu betreiben. Normale Batterien sind in kürzester Zeit leer. Nun ja, in Wirklichkeit sind sie nicht leer nur die Kamera meint uns dies glaubhaft zu machen. Der Grund dafür ist (basierend auf einigen Messungen) dass das Signal für die Batterieüberwachung voll mit Rauschen ist. Der Hersteller hat offenbar zu arg an den Kondensatoren gespart. Die Software verwendet vermutlich den unteren Spannungswert und schaltet das Gerät zu früh ab.
Ich habe einen Weg gefunden die Batterieüberwachung komplett zu deaktivieren. Die Kamera saugt die Batterie dann vollständig leer und läuft dafür doppelt so lange.
Es sind jedoch einige mögliche Probleme mit dem Umbau verbunden von denen Sie wissen sollten:
- Wiederaufladbare Akkus können aufgrund von Tiefentladung geschädigt werden.
- Überlastung des Spannungsreglers. Je niedriger die Versorgungsspannung desto höher der Strom. Die Bauteile sind vermutlich nicht auf zusätzlichen Strom ausgelegt. Jedoch gilt auch je niedriger die Spannung der Batterie wird desto geringer wird der Strom der geliefert werden kann. Die Tests soweit haben keine Zerstörung der Kamera gezeigt.
- SD Speicherkartenfehler. Abhängig von der SD Karte besteht die Möglichkeit von korrupten Daten wenn die Kamera während dem Schreiben abschaltet.
